Have you ever thought of the question, “What if there’s no meat in the future?” Animal husbandry has caused serious impacts on animals’ lives and the environment. In this Grade 8 English unit, the teacher, Ian, guided students learn about and reflect on the impacts of animal husbandry and the novel concept of “future meat.” After reading the articles, students considered the option of plant-based meat and explored enterprises producing plant-based burgers. They also discussed the pros and cons of lab-grown meat. Through discussion, students exchanged their perspectives with one another. In the next few weeks, students will be working on an inquiry project.
